Made a multi-purpose trip to the LGS /range.
Left my M&P 9 there to have an Apex Tactical DCAEK installed by the gunsmith.
Wanted an appraisal on my PM9 as trade-in.
Also wanted a last look at a used SW 3913 9mm that was for sale at $450 (at least $100 too high) and to see if any SA EMP 9's were available.
My pristine, 6 month old PM9, with NS, is worth $450 wholesale.
The SW was gone and the only EMP in stock was .40 cal and priced at $1140
What to do?
I did the obvious and took the PM9 out of the box and spent an hour or so shooting it. I discovered two things. I shoot much better with 124 gr than I do with 115 gr. AND there is a huge jump in accuracy when shooting at 12 feet versus 18 ft. I tried to buy some 147 gr but the LGS did not have any.
What are your experiences with heavier bullets in a CM or PM9?
While there, I shot my Sig 380 Auto. That thing is so good, from the sights to the ergonomics to the amazing accuracy. I had to shoot Tula steel cased Russian ammo (sale that day). I had two duds in the box. I even tried a second strike on one round but ended up tossing it down range. I decided to save the box of Tula in 9mm I also bought. Is this crap OK in a PM9?

My CM9 shoots better with 124gr. also.
Although I will use 115gr for practice, my choice in 9mm (autos) is and always has been 124gr...and in standard pressure in a lw gun 'cause I just shoot that better. Current carry load is HydraShok but I'm moving all my carry ammunition in all calibers to Gold Dot or HST as my HS stock gets used up.
An aside since you mentioned it. I'm liking my new Sig P238 more and more, except for the trigger creep which is easily fixable if it continues as an issue. It overall feels and carries better than my old carry Mustang right out of the box. Not sure this is good since I'm now more inclined to take it than my PM9 for quick runs to the store(s).

I can't come close with my PM9, maybe a five inch group and any one handed shooting is iffy.

My experience with Tula in my PM9 was not bad (no FTF or FTE), but the stuff was absolutely filthy! My PM9 was dirtier after 50 rounds of Tula than 200 rounds of WWB or Remington!

I've been shooting 147gr Winchester PDX1 Bonded in mine, really loves that ammo!

Wasn't the 9mm originally designed as a 124 gr? I know that's what I use in a Golden Saber or HST.

Maybe that gives the best compromise for spring tensi0n and design of timing issues. I have read enough negative stuff about 147 gr in short barrel guns that I have never tried it. If my regular range has some, I intend to shoot a box.

So, why the difference in accuracy???

Rainman, something is not making sense. You are saying at 12 feet, your PM9is OK but at 15 feet or 18 feet, the best you can do is a 5 inch group?
When you say "OK at 15 feet", what does that mean?

The 124's shoot best in my CM9. Much tighter groups. The Speer Gold Dot 124 is my edc load.

Resurrecting an old thread, with pertinent related current antecdotal information:
I had been doing the mental gymnastics regarding whether to carry 124gr Federal HST vs 147gr Federal HST 9mm in my PM9 (PM9193). Both are standard pressure loads.
So, I decided to end the debate in my head with a heads up range comparison. I shot 4 mags of each, 2 at a time alternating, at 10 yards.
The 147gr shot generally more diffuse with some low left stringing which certainly was the fault of the shooter, me.
The 124gr grouped tighter, 'Nuff said.
I loaded up 124gr HST into my PM9 and put it on my hip for the ride home

Back to the Tula question, the brass cased Tula made in Italy is not too bad. I don't even think it's that dirty. The steel Russian stuff is a different matter.

Ya learned something from the experience didn't you? Why do you need our opinion of Tula ammo?

that sh!t will not work i myh G43 glock, and u all know glocks never fail. I would not put that sh!t in any of my kahrs, sure they might go bang but consceous is that it is crap ammo and it won't shoot in any of my kahrs.. either Just sayin

I only run 124 gr. rounds in my PM9 but that is just because I have 5000 unloaded plated bullets to shoot up.
Maybe a bit off topic but....
Jocko: Glock 43 or PM9 for accuracy and ease of point shooting using 124 gr. ammo? Looking at one as a teaching tool.

No douobt the GT43 is more accurate to shoot for most, due to the trigger system, and POA with the G43 to me is aboout the same as my PMJ9. I can pocket carry the G43 and have been carrying it while my kahr slide was at kahr getting fiber sites installed. It carried prettry good, but it is an inch longer and a tad longer in height i got my MJ9 back last week and took it to the range to test out the fiber sites and I can say myaccuracy improved alot, and I mean alot. If my G43 is a 10 my PMJ9 now is a 7+ which befoe was just a terrible shooter for me. It is not back in my front pocket as my main carry. It just rides better and being 5 ounces lighter , there is a difference. I don't worry to much about 25 yard stuff,so my practice drills are 10 yards and under. I like um both ALOT but my PMJ9 now is set up exactly how I want it, and I think all I need is some more good range time. I did mention my
G43 will not shoot TUL AMMO, nor has any of my kahrs. I have mmc adjustable sties on my K9 and I shoot it last week and I can shoot that K9 as good as my glock 43. Very nice shooter and that rear adjustble site helps me alot. It has the NYPD trigger in it and it really is no bother to me. Its my home gun, along with my G43. All are magna ported to and that helps so much it is hard to believe. Recoil is just not there IMO, expecialy in the heaver K9. I shoot corbon 100 powerballin all my carry guns, they just feed so so good, and what I might give up in weight I feel I gain in reliability. plus it is +P..
