My free extended mag for my CM9 arrived yesterday. After checking the spring, squeezing the feed lips, sanding the follower and polishing the sides, I'm a happy camper. Thanks Kahr. :)

So how many weeks was it so we have a good wait time?

so how long did it take you to make the mag the way it should have been from the factory?

Takes all of 5 minutes to tweak them although we the consumer shouldn't have to do this. This really does need to be addressed by Kahr. It's a minor issue but QC should catch this. Too many bad mags going out and maybe a change of vendors is in order if they can't get their shyt together and make them right.

That's it. Shouldn't have to but it takes less time than to open and unpack a new toaster.

I sent for it on or about September 27th. A week or so less than two months ago. I emailed Kahr to make sure that they got my request about six weeks out and I received a confirmation the next day. They told me then that they were waiting for a new shipment of mags and that they hadn't anticipated the number of requests that they had received. The CM-9s are selling like hot cakes.

About 15 minutes. I'm getting pretty good at it

just got my 7 round free mag yesterday also. it took about 7 weeks.
i did dissasemble and clean it before going to the range
Could you elaborate on sanding the follower?
I used the 7 rounder for the first time today and experienced 2 ftf in first and third mag full. after that it ran flawless and I was loading it all the way shot a total of 150 rounds.
My 6 round magazine has been flawless for 500 rounds since kahr replaced a faulty barrel that came with the gun when it was brand new.

refer to the kahr tech section and hit on the proper prepping of ur new kahr for some info on the sanding the follower thing, Most never need to do it, but you can test it out yourself in ur gun to see if the follower is an issue. sounds like ur's is OK.

Muggsy, IMO just took the precautionary move to eliminate any possable issues. Which IMO was a wise move..

Yeah, I got mine promptly after buying the gun a couple months ago. After doing absolutely NOTHING to it but putting it in the gun and shooting the heck out of it with zero problems I'm a happy camper. :D

You guys complain that the magazines don't drop free as you think they should. But in the manual it states that you need to pull the magazine from the magwell. See below. So they are working as designed. Maybe not as you would have designed. :)

Now, I have tweaked all my magazines to drop free, but I don't think Kahr should be bashed for this reason. Springs being installed backwards, base plates sliding and poor seam welds... that is a nother story.

Good post, Ressom. But with my CM9, I find the mag release button is way too stiff. I have to hit it with the heel of my hand half the time. And the more I use the gun, the more resistant the mags get to dropping even 1/4". I have to hit the release 2 or 3 times to get a mag to unlatch and drop enough to clear and let me pull it out. I am going to do the squeeze on my mags to fix the drop. I hope the release will get easier over time and rounds fired. IMO, these issues, added to all of the others, makes my opinion of the whole mag situation on these Kahrs pretty negative. And on top of this is the standard CS line that there is nothing wrong with them and none of our discovered fixes need to be done to them. As long as they have their heads in the sand, it won't get fixed.

As I've lurked here several months, several Kahr owners report their mags released freely. I saw a recent post where Kahr accepted a gun back and fixed the tight mag issue. Kahr can't have it both ways. It seems to me they are wrong 50% of the time regardless of how you view this.

The mag not freely falling can be a training issue since most, if not all training assumes you will be dropping them freely. After all, you freed yours up.

As far as I'm concerned Kahr should address the problems associated with chambering a round by the sling shot method and of having mags drop free. You should be able to do both with a defensive pistol. A jamb in an automatic pistol is cleared with the tap, rack drill and a rapid mag change could save your life. With the modifications to the magazine my CM9 mags now drop free and I can sling shot the slide to chamber a round if I so choose. It should not be necessary to spend hours, time and money to make a fairly expensive firearm function properly. It should do so out of the box.

Modifying a magazine to drop free is something an owner can easily do. Fixing this is another story:

Ouch! That doesn't look good. Send it back to Kahr for a free replacement.

Fortunately it isn’t mine. But it puts the whole not dropping free issue into perspective. I would rather Kahr focus on fixing these magazine failure issues.
