View Full Version : Does anyone have a photo of a CW9 and a CM9 w/Pearce extension?

I'm new here and finally decided to go with a Kahr to replace my LCP.

My problem now is that I can't decide if I want the CM9 or the CW9.

I like being able to get 3 fingers on the CW but the CM9 will be easier to conceal and even almost pocketable during the summer.

What I'm wondering now is whether or not I can get a 3 finger grip on the CM9 with the pearce extension. To me, it will be nice to have the choice of running the gun either way.

Does anyone have a picture of the CM9 with the grip extension in their hand or next to a CW9?

Also, does the CM9 have more recoil than the CW9 due to the shorter barrel length?

I would get the CM9. I can speak from experience because I bought a PM9 instead of a P9. Like you stated, it give you more concealability and flexibility. The CM WILL fit in the proper pocket; myself and others have done it successfully many times. There are some pics of the pierce grip somewhere on this forum and I'm sure you'll get them posted in time.
I, however, prefer the look of these grip extensions on the 7 round P9 magazine:

Shown in this thread: http://kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=3243&highlight=pearce+grip+extender
(Pay attention to what is the pearce and what are his mods. He did some great work here BTW)

The cw9 is a great gun, super peace, IMO not a pocket gun. The cm9 is a pocket gun. on the edge of not being but I have carried my PM9 for over 4yars in my jeans front pocket with ease. Mind u not a fast draw area but riding in a desantis it hides well and I don't even know it is there. I never leave home with out it. I don't dress to carry, that is what is nice about the cm9. If ur gonna waiste band carry, the cw carrys that extra round and a tad more grip area.

I know were confusing you but IMO u need to decide which way yr gonna carry 90% of the time..One does well in the pocket, one does not, both will do well on ur side.

Well said. Pick the gun you will wear ALL of the time. What good is a gun you're not wearing?
Also...right now you're probably imagining concealing your pistol in thicker clothes or even a coat. Keep in mind that you will conceal this in the summer as well(I'm assuming). THOSE are the clothes you need to be trying your CCW pistol in because those will likely be the most revealing.

With either gun, you only have 2-3 tactical groupings for assailants. That's 2-3 bad guys whether you hold 6 or 7 rounds IMO.

I know many think guns print and maybe they do but no one is really looking, If ur legal to carry, screw it anyhow. I am sure my PM9 probably prints in my pocket because I know it is a gun and I know it is there. YOU DON'T. big difference. We tend to worry abouyt what is not to worry about.

I dropped down to the CW9 because I couldn't always carry and hide my 4" 1911, and was switching between that and a Colt Gov't .380. The CW9 was a split between the two... size-wise and power-wise, but lighter (loaded) than the Colt (loaded.) Couldn't be happier.

No, it is not a pocket pistol, and I really don't want to carry a pistol in my pocket, thank you very much.

Jocko can call me out on that one haha

As far as pocket carry to the prematurely defensive gentleman(no offence intended), I feel the same way, but due to the situation have had to adapt and overcome by carrying in my pocket.

My first Kahr was a P9. Bought it instead of a PM9 because I thought I needed the longer grip to control it and shoot it well. Well I didn't shoot it very well and was about to swear off Kahr. However, in a weak moment I bought a PM9. Best weak moment I have ever had. Despite the shorter grip and shorter site radius I shoot the PM9 great. I took the P9 and PM9 to the range one day and set up two targets. I loaded 5 rounds and shot the P9 at one target and then loaded 5 rounds and shot the PM9 at the other. I did this until I finished a 50 round box of 124 grain American Eagle. The group for the PM9 was half the size of the P9. Both guns were 100% reliable but the PM9 is easier to conceal and I shoot it better. I hope the present owner of the P9 can shoot it better than I did. Loved the P9 except for the fact I couldn't shoot it well. Shoot them both if you can. The shorter grip was not the issue for me that I thought it would be.

ur right the shorter grip didn't make much difference for me either. I shoot my Pm9 and my K9 the same POORLY.

IMO one should shoot he P series a tad better than the PM9 due to alittle extra barrel and grip. I shoot my K9 better than my PM9 but truthfully not good and no comparision what I can do with my tuned G19. But my G19 and K9 are dan near safe queens (as Ihave no safe) but it sounds good to say that, they stay home and ol trusty PM9 goes with me 24/7. I feel very confident with it at 7 yards and under, 10 yards less confident 15-25, I run like hell...

lol...sorry, but I've had better luck with my PM9. You can see my grouping in my avatar of 7 rounds at 10 yards. I can put several rounds in a half dollar at 25 yards!

Oh, and that was where I was aiming, the heart. Not at the bullseye. XD

Well. I think you guys have convinced me.

The only places I've seen these gun locally are Bass Pro, Cabela's, and one LGS (that was priced higher than the other two.) Cabela's is running a sale on them for $399/449 (CW/CM) so I think I'll pick one up tomorrow :)

No, I have a buddy thats a firefighter and with his discount after FFL fees its pretty close to Cabela's pricing.

The way I'm doing it is by having Bass Pro price match, opening a Bass Pro card to save 10% (covers the tax) and hopefully walking out with a CM9 for $450 or a little less. My LGS has the CM9 for $499+tax

This POST (http://kahrtalk.com/showpost.php?p=92533&postcount=14) has a CM9 and a PM9, both with Pearce Grips.

Well I double checked with Bass Pro this morning and the promotion has changed from 10% to a $100 gift card.

So assuming I can sell the gift card for at least $80, I should be able to pick up a CM9 for around $400 after all is said and done. Then I can buy it sooner and not have to deal with shipping/FFL.

Or make a 2nd trip with the gift card and get free ammo!

Good choice, TeaQue. My first Kahr five years ago was a CW9, and the CW series is great, but the smaller, lighter CM makes a more practical concealed pistol. I have three guns that require a two finger grip, compact M&P 40, PM9 and LCP, and it's something that you get used to. The M&P has two mags, one with an extension and one without - it no longer makes a difference.

Well I've been playing with my CM9 non-stop and i'm itching to shoot it. Hopefully I'll get a chance later this week.

I was amazed at how much oil and crap was in this gun from the factory so I broke it down and clean/lubed it according to the guide on this forum and put on some gloves and racked it a good 200 times then repeated the cleaning/lubing.

I also sanded down the mag follower according to the guide in the Tech forum so hopefully I don't have any issues at the range. It seems like its loosened up a little now. I already ordered the talon rubber grip tape and pearce grip extensions as well. :)

I wonder how long it will take Kahr to ship out my free 7rd mag.

Congrats! I LOVE my PM9 and haven't had any issues with it except off the wall stuff. No consistent jams or FTFs or anything.

Rack it as much as you can, except I never did this before shooting and it worked just fine it seems.

I never had any problems with the mags either really. I would've tried it first personally.

I never had to wait on one, but there is a forum about the wait times right now, and when I peeked at it, I think I remember seeing a 7 week wait on those. BUT, they're coming with the new and barely improved mag extensions on them.

Well I had some remington hollowpoints laying around and I loaded the gun to see if I could slingshot the slide and the rounds were nose-diving every time.

Now that I've sanded the follower down its gotten a lot better. That sucks about the wait time on the mag! That 200rd break in period is gonna take awhile having to stop and reload......then again maybe thats a good thing. With my M&P and 3 17rd mags I seem to blow through ammo at the range a little too quickly :D

I need to practice with this trigger too as its only my second DAO pistol (first was an LCP and I barely shot it.) My M&P has an Apex FSS (aluminum trigger kit so now it shoots like a 1911) so going back and forth will be tough. I'll probably leave the M&P at home until I become fairly accurate with the Kahr.

Confirm if I'm not wrong, but slingshotting your slide is NOT using the slide release right? It's pulling it back from the forward position and letting it ride forward right?

Remember: THINK SMOOOOOOOOOOTH!!!

Yes, slingshotting is pulling the slide back and letting go.

When you do that, which round nosedives?

I typically load 6+1 by locking open, inserting a round, and releasing the slide. Then I insert my mag.

1st round did it consistently. After sanding the mag follower I've been able to slingshot it at least 10 times in a row :)

that could be kinda hard on the extractor, as the extractor system in kahrs for sure is designed to hav ethe round slide up between it and the face and not have to forceable ride over the rim of the round. Kahrs has one of the most durable extractors I have ever seen. I can't remember ever seeing a broken one,..

I load out of the magazine and then drop the mag and top off the magazine..

Hmmm...ok. I'll have it not ride forward completely sometimes if I don't let the slide go cleanly.

Wow...have these issues come up from loading the first round like I do?
What about the magazine release? I was taught to pull slide tension OFF of the release, allowing the slide to ride forward without putting pressure on the magazine release. The CCW instructor who taught me that said they tend to break if you do that too much.

I believe the Kahr manual says to use the mag release.
