View Full Version : A little concerned here!
First post here!
Been reading over the Tech area and see some posts about problems with the CW-45's. I have two of them, one with a CW laser.
Reading the break in notes and see that I need to do more work on mine. My concern is that the work outlined is more in line with what I have to do with a KelTec. Polishing the feed ramp, checking clearances etc.
My KT's have been very dependable (after reworking) even the P-40 with .357 SIG barrel and they are known to have "problems" with some shooters.
I thought that I'd get away from that with a Kahr.
Am I dreaming?

not true at al. The propper preping is a guide, not a necessity at all. Most all work great out of the box. If u choose to not do any of it, then just shoot it like u stole it. It ain't a kel tec, I owned 3 of them to. but you also gotta admit, if u owned a kel tec, and u did some of the things the guys suggested to it, it certainly helped it along. What is wrong with that??/ Kahrs feed ramp if u have ever looked at it is outstanding, no polishing is really necessary, BUT is it going to hurt anything if u do alittle more???? If u have two cw45, and they are working great, What is the problem.
Disregard the tech thread if u wish, gun will more than likerly perform as designed, if u have any hiccups, then go to the thread and see if some hints are there to help u. IMO ur reading way to much into that prepping thread. ..Sure beats sending a gun back for maybe something lke magazine springs put in backwards, or machineing crude left in the striker channel..
what some members did here was to correlate many member posts into a few good sticky's, so as not to have to repeat and repeat things over and over. We have over 107,000 post and over 8500 threads from over 7900 members, All we did was to put some of THEIR SUGGESTIONS into one or two sticky's. Many are just good "common" sense suggestions, that for a newbie or one who really knows nothing about a gun, can be very helpful, to veterans of guns, IT IS COMMON SENSE".
I have polished every feed ramp on every gun I have owned for years for I feel I can do even better.

I didn't do a thing to my CW9... (it was used with about 200 rounds through it, and I know the previous owner didn't do anything to it, mechanically) and it shoots wonderfully. I doubt I will do anything to it unless I experience a feeding or cycling issue besides clean it.

most all kahrs are like that to, but the nice thing is you know from this forum that you have a few threads to fall back on if something pops up that might just help u to. Hell whenI bought my PM9 over 5 years ago. I basically knew nothing about kahrs, I knew guns and I did the polishing of the feed ramp and proper cleaning before hand and thenI just shot it like I stole it. It has served me well for over 32K, so I considered my PM9 good out of the box also, but this fourm has added alot of knowledge to owners of kahrs and myself included..
course also the cw9 is just one damn fine gun to.:yo:

I picked up my third CW series Kahr last Saturday. The first two only got a good oiling and ran great right out of the box. I expect nothing less from my latest, another CW45

my pm9 was that way, the rounds bumped the slide release a little, but i shaved it down before i fired it and have never had a problem with it through going on 8K rounds.
my k9 on the other hand... i was really surprised to have multiple issues with, when usually their metal guns are perfect.
I never prepped my PM9 other than a clean and lube. 1FTE on the first shot and one more at mag 3 and I'm pretty sure that was my fault. It’s been flawless since at over 1400 rounds :)
Even with the 7 ROUND MAG!!!

Am I dreaming? My prep for all brands (bought ten new guns this year)
1.a Read manual.
1.b Clean and lube before shooting. You want to look for manufacturing residue, barrel obstructions and obviously damaged parts while you're in there.
2. Load mags to full capacity and leave them that way for 48 hours
3. Leave slide locked open for 24 hours (good time to read the manual again!)
4. Rack slide 100 times
5. Dry fire enough to get familiar with the trigger.
6. Shoot quality brass factory ammo during first 200 rounds
7. Consult with factory if there are any issues
8. Send gun back if necessary
9. Post results on forum.;)

You should be good to go, Mr_D. I've had five Kahrs over five years and my prep was the same as for any other pistol - clean, lube well, and shoot. Never had the first problem.
BTW, my first Kahr, a CW9, was the replacement for an unreliable PF9, so it's not a valid comparison.
