About a month ago i saw a used mustang at a local pawn shop for 650.00. Had a few little scratches but otherwise in good shape. Thought about it for a day and the next day came in to buy it, it was gone and i was kicking myself.
This was before i learned that colt was coming out with the new mustang.
Fast forward to last weekend. Went to my fav local toy store KEsselrings gun shop and discovered a nib ss colt mustang for 649.99$ and it was there only one left so i jumped on the chance. Filled out paper work and i will pick it up this weekend. I may have overpaid a little but i am happy. Its another gun to cross off my want list!
Anyone have expirience with these little stangs? New or old? I do realize its single action and i will still be carrying my p380 (which has been almost flawless in a little over 400 rnds) The colt will be more of range toy/ collection piece to my other colts.

Scotty, I was in a LGS yesterday and saw one of those beauties. Really caught my eye and captured my heart. I believe it was around $750 (used), so it looks like you did pretty good with your purchase. Congrats!

Kesselrings is usually extremely competitive, usually best price around. I use them exclusively for all our dept needs and I've bought alot of stuff from them personally for myself and officers too.
It's a heck of a candy store. If they don't have it you don't need it.
They recently became a Kahr LE distributor too so that should hopefully bleed over into civilian sales as well which should be a good thing too.

Is this the Colt which the SIG P238 was modelled after? If so, be carefull when reassembling after cleaning that you don't push the ejector too low. There's hell to pay if you do. Press it just enough to get the slide past it. I look forward to seeing one and your range report. It took SIG about 18-24 months to get theirs right but its a joy to own now.

Bawanna- thats good to know about the kahrs. Hopefully the will start stocking more models because all they ever have is the cw40 and cw9. And im still looking for the pm45. Its funny, i have four lgs withi. A half hour drive and none of them have ever stocked that model!
Triggerman- thanks for the advise and i will for sure give u guys a range report. It might be a couple weeks tho

I had a PocketLite Mustang tears ago and sold it to buy the PM9. It was a good gun and had sat in my "safe" since I bought it, except for about 50rds. When my wife decided I should start carrying I looked and it was worth much more than I paid and frankly was too pretty. I sold it to a collector for enough to buy the PM9, holster and some ammo.
Trigger is right about the doo-hickey that sticks up on the original design. Don't know if they fixed that or not. It's a beautiful design, but still a .380.

The old Mustang and the current Sig still have the issue. Read your manual if you buy a new one. They'll warn you. It has never been a problem but several new owners found themselves sending their 380s in for repair.

Yep what trigger says it true. I boogered up my 80's model Colt Government model .380 one time fortunately I was able to fix it myself. What a scare. You're gonna enjoy that pistol. they shoot really good.
Carried a Mustang Pocketlite (along with old faithful J-frames) since somewhere in the mid-'90s until switching to the PM9 a couple/three years ago. Spent a fair amount of money putting decent sights on it. dehorned it, and slicked up the action. Except for its annoying bit of trigger creep, I like its companion, my new Sig P238, just as well or maybe better right of the box.
I pushed the Mustang's ejector down too far, once, early on. Once was all it took to learn not to do that. Don't know about the Sig and I'm not going to try it, but with the Mustang it's not really hard to recover if you work on guns....just a really big pita.

I remember getting the lever thing pointed down and fixed it by sticking a pencil up the mag well. It's a couple forevers ago but I may have caught it before I buggered anything up too bad.
You're right, now that I recall. That was the accepted fix unless you got seriously stupid and kept poking at it from and around the top until you really pissed it off. I got seriously stupid.

Sierrajb- i wont have it for a week or two. Dont get paid till end of month and ive been really busy lately but i will post a pic as soon as possibe.
Now i just need a colt junior to go with it. Used to have an astra cub but stupid me sold it. I am kind of a 25 guy, hate the caliber but love the guns. Psa 25, beretta 950, baby browning, bauer are all on my want list just havent found any of them yet.

There's no fixing it by pushing it up thru the mag well once it has slipped off the sear spring...without possibly doing some damage.
Here's the fix with full pictures. Works on the SIG as well.

Had one for over 20 years. IMHO the gun is a little work horse. I have only cleaned it once in this time and have put 600 rounds through it. It never FTF or other problems. Recoil is almost doesnt exist. My ONLY complaint if it is really even a complaint is that there are no real sights on it. I wouldnt expect it though on such a small gun. The Sig version looks almost exactly like it. Not sure if it is though. I am not a Laser sighting fanatic but this gun could use it. Not sure if the laser ket from CTL will fit it though.

The SIG version has some pretty good night sights. There isn't anything I don't like about the gun. It did take some effort to get it running right. SIG polished my feedramp and that's all it needed to go from 95% to 100%. The first one I bought had minor issues and was quickly replaced when they found a fracture in the frame near the trigger pivot. I carry Gold Dots and shoot any range ammo I want.
As for cleaning it, I never let that go past 150 rounds, usually much less since I clean after every range trip.
I changed the grips since this picture was taken.

How do you like that N8² Tactical holster? I have heard they are very comfortable. But, to me, they look a bit thick and bulky.

I find it to ride a touch higher than I want and I am not 100% comfortable with lack of a more rigid cover on the trigger. Thickness is not an issue for me. Quality is good, I've just moved on to leather or leather/kydex combo holsters.

Bought my Colt .380 new about 25 years ago - maybe 100 rounds thru the pipe is all. It's a nice little safe queen:

Yes, it's the Series 80 Government .380 model.
It's a fine little pistol.

It certainly is. Loaned mine to my sister in PA when I was getting out of .380 a few years ago in order to get her out .25. Now that I'm reconsidering the caliber, she refuses to give it back.

I have had mine for about 15 years. Carried it every day for a couple of years. Now carry it when I can't fit my MK9 or j frame smith. I carry with hammer down on a chambered round. I shoot the carry ammo about every 6 months to a year, no probs. Shoots Federal 380BP very accurately. I plan to get the frame re-nickeled sometime.

Yeah Jocko, I made the grips from some craft plywood. I needed something that would lay flatter. Not to pretty, but they work.
