View Full Version : CM9 slide release?
Just picked up my new CM9 a couple of days ago and have been giving the arms and especially the hands a workout to work the slide 500 times. And I've been doing some dry-firing to get a feel for the trigger.
The problem, though, is the slide release. When I have the slide locked back, it's basically impossible to pull the slide release down with a thumb, or even two. I have to grab the back of the slide and pull it back a little more to release the pressure.
Is this just the legendary strength of the Kahr spring, or is there something else at work?
I've been doing this little workout with an empty gun -- no mag. I see the warning in the Kahr literature about the slide release and an empty mag. But I'm not sure that fits what I'm seeing.

They ARE notoriously tough springs. That's how we get such great recoil in our little guns. It's the trade-off in the deal.
Once you actually start firing rounds, forcing that slide back with much greater force than your hands, you will notice a change in the stiffness of your gun's spring.
However, don't go thinking it will feel like an LC9 slide...because it won't. But it won't ever kick like one either!
Pulling a little tension off of that slide release is the best way to release that slide if your thumb can't do it by itself. Also, it wears less on the mechanics of that slide release lever and you'll experience more longevity from it.

It's also designed that way. The slide release will release much easier with a loaded magazine in place. It's a sure indication your trying to load nothing when the chips are down.

My PM9 came with a sticker on the manual that warns about not being able to release the slide with no mag in the gun!! Maybe it pays to read the manual when getting a new handgun??

the gun and getting rounds through it does wonders for all parts tomate up properly, Also "technique" is part of a smallgun. The slide release is not supposed to be loosy goosey either or u would have worst issues. It will get better and you will also get better. A gun and shooter have to mate up also. Put a little dab of grease on that slide lock lever where it comesinto contact witht he cutin the slide. There might jsut be alittle burr there that just needs some usage to smooth out..

+1 on that!!!

I saw the sticker but maybe misinterpreted what it meant. I thought it said the slide wouldn't release with an empty mag in the gun. But I often have to re-read instructions a half-dozen times to get it right ... :)
