View Full Version : What's your knocking around the homestead gun?

Most people seem to have that comfortable shirt, boots, whatever;
that they gravitate to when bumming around the house on a weekend.
With us gun folk, that translates into something comfortable to carry
about the homestead weapon.
For me It's not really a decision.
More like an automatic and natural choice.

My P380... I forget that I have it on sometimes. I just left it on a few minutes ago when I went to the convenience store to get lottery tickets... just added an extra magazine... 7 rounds in a clip-on holder... plus my phone and my FAST Draw Gerber.

Prior to getting my PM9 and still on occasion it is my Kel-Tec P3AT. This is the gun that got me out of a sticky situation one day in April of 2010. I will carry a spare 9 rounder mag when carrying the P3AT.

A Smith & Wesson 642.
Five rounds of 135gr. Gold Dot ammo.
Five rounds in a Bianchi speed-strip.
Crimson Trace laser grip.
Galco inside the pocket holster.

This setup seems to be on me most of the time.

I wear or keep very handy whatever my EDC was that day. Last few days, HK P7. I will bring the Sig 1911 RCS back into daily duty soon. Easy enough in winter clothes. My PM9 is cleaned up for a possible sale so I have not carried it in over a week. My baby Sig keeps throwing grip screws so she's on the sidelines for a bit.

P3at mostly but many times it's still my PM9.

I have had two Ruger SP101's stashed at key points around the home ... but I'm going to sell both of those off in favor of a T9 that I just fell into. (Once proven reliability of course).

For knocking around on the farm, I'm going to use my Dan Wesson Model 14, 6" .357 mag with fixed sights It's has some scratches and stuff already, so will make a good knock around gun for the farm.
For indoor use in the evening, I'll probably use my Kimber so I can show off those nice grips Bawanna did for me.

I also am a "two" Ruger SP101 Household. Wife has hers stashed in the house where she can get it and mine is in the safe. I occasionally carry it. My main carry is my trusty PM9. It is really hard to beat that little gun! :D

If I have one at all, it's the LCP. It's one of two guns I keep outside the safe, but they are well hidden.

Depends on what I'm carrying that day. I usually wear blue jeans and t-shirt anyway, and don't really dress differently if I'm knocking about. I keep the closet that has my fire sticks open, so the pistol that would be my EDC for the day or however long, and then all the rest of them are accessible as well.

Around the house and around my land and adjoining properties, I like to experiment with guns and holsters that I don't carry much, or haven't carried much yet, or havent carried in awhile.

Allows me to try new combinations and to do so while engaging in a wide range of movements and while wearing a range of different clothing.

I know what I like in CC (my Kahrs, of course), and the occasional lightweight alloy snubby revolver. But I like to stay open minded and I like to experiment with new things, and I like to re-visit now-abandoned old favorites from time to time.

Right now, I am experimenting with a Ruger Security Six in 2 3/4" barrel in an OWB holster as a new option (a heavy snubby). And I carried a Colt Woodsman the other day in a old Eubanks shoulder holster. Man, I still hate shoulder holsters.

As for former carry options, I still like to pack my older steel .380's around the neighborhood (1910 Browning, Remington 51, Colt 1908, Savage 1910, Walther PP and the like) as well as K frame sized revolvers.

Gotta love them all.

Almost always, PM45
Sometimes PM9 when I really gotta have extra light weight

If I carry at home in the house, it's usually my 642. Any other time, it's the CM9. The 642 is such a comfy gun to tote, lightweight and smooth.

I cannot tell a lie... LCP w/10-rd. mag (10+1) IWB most of the time... Enough for a rabid dog of 4 or 2-legged variety yet only weighs 14 oz loaded!... (Looks a little odd but no-one sees it besides me and y'all when I post a pic on here.)
