100 years of service

I've been wanting to buy a stainless 1911 this year as we celebrate the platform's 100th year of it's service. To that end, I was lucky enough to snag a Ruger SR1911.

However, I was dissatisfied with the machining done on top of the slide and returned it for a refund. In hindsight, I probably should have kept it and refinished the slide myself, because the place I shop hasn't seen another since. Likewise, they haven't had a Springfield TRP on the shelf in ages. Colts have been scare too. I already have black Kimber in the model I like, but briefly considered trading it for a stainless one. As the year has slipped away, I reckoned I might have to revisit that plan. Fortunately, a stainless Colt Government model hit the shelves yesterday and I snatched it up. I like that it's one of those that have the -100 Years of Service- roll mark on the extractor side of the slide.:yo:

Today, I put a shorter trigger in it and swapped out the rubber grips for some micarta (not sure if they will stay, just wanted to get rid of the rubber ones).

I got a chance to put about 50 rounds through it and so far, it shoots great. I'm real pleased with it.:)

Gorgeous! Is that series 70 or 80? I agree its cool to have the 100 year rollmark. Very cool.

Thanks, that would have been great. Outside the slide issue (cosmetic), I really liked the SR1911. However, I'm very pleased with the Colt.

That's a sweetheart! I was out shooting my Colt Commander yesterday. I have an older one made in the early 90's. It has thousands of rounds through it and has been flawless (knock on wood) so far. I also shot a brand new Sig 1911. It was quite impressive! It also shot real well! You need to tell us how your new Colt shoots. What does the 100th Anniversary stamp look like?

I'm jealous too. It looks like a dot on the front sight so it must have something better than the standard GI sights already too.

I was thinking it won't be long and maybe we can get Jocko a tatoo that says 100 years of service, I think it's too late for a 75th anniversary Jocko edition.

I'm off to our local gunshow with several items on my search list and very little money in my hand but a song in heart. Damn I'm wierd.

Some would say it involves lack of thought but I'm never sure.

I saw the earlier version of GB's Colt at the gunshow without the 100 year rollmark and series 70. Got my heart to pumping until I remembered I didn't have enough money for the fondling fee let alone purchase price. I did buy a book about 1911's by Walt Kulek so I can read about em anyhow.

My kind of book, lots of pictures and only a few big words.
