I see that these two brands, Dawson precision and Trijicon, are the two choices for front night sights on the CW pistol line. I have researched the two and have found that the DP is installed by staking and Trijicon by a screw. My question is reliably of the Dawson over the Trijicon. I would like to here from you guys that have installed the Dawson front sight. Was is easy to install? Are they still staying bright? Are they staying in place long after the install?
I've owned Trijicon's on my glock36 and they were great. Only negative I've read about the Trijicon's is the screw holding the sight on doesn't seat all the way down due to improper screw head size.
Also, any pics of the Dawson's night sights are welcome as well.
Thanks everyone!

I installed the Dawson Precision, when they were first introduced, on my CW9. The install went smoothly, and the front site is still tight. No reduction in brightness. I cant speak to Trijicon, they weren't available then. Actually, I prefer big dot, but they were(are) not available.

Anyway I could trouble u for a pic of the inside of the slide where you staked the sight? I'm a visual person. I like to know what I'm getting into before I do it. It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone!I installed the Trijicon front sight on my CM9 and there was no issues. The problem WAS that the recess in the slide where the screw would go was not deep enough. NOT the screw head size. It is my understanding that Kahr has been making the recess deep enough now. Even if your recess is not deep enough, it is easily corrected by using a counter sink bit or a small cone shaped fine grinding stone in a Dremel or like device and making the recess a little deeper BEFORE final installation. It is easy to find out if you need to do this. After you remove the stock sight, put the screw in the hole. If the screw head protrudes past being below the level of the flat area on the underside of the slide, you need to remove a small amount of material. Remove material until the screw head is either flush or just below that level. Remember to use red Loctite on the screw threads and between the sight and the slide during final installation. One last thing, use blue painter's tape and tape off the slide around the stock sight. This way you cannot scratch the side during removal of the stock sight and during installation, the Loctite will not get on the slide. It really is a simple switch out. One thing to consider between Dawson and Trijicon, Trijicon has a 12 year guarantee against dimming. Plus Trijicon offers a low cost relamping service. I don't know what Dawson has to offer in those areas.

Not a problem on my cw9 or cm9.
Greg has a post up with great pics showing what he ran into with the slide not being counter sunk enough. But as far as I know everyone lately that installed the Trijicon has not had that issue.
Mine.

Ill probably go Trijicon because I've used them before. I just don't want to have to remove any material from the slide to make it work. My CW45 is less than a year old so it should be an issue. Thanks everyone for the replys.

Are these no longer available from Kahr for just the front sight?
Kahr CW/CM Front Trijicon Night Sight
Part #: 034CW9
I can't get the shopping cart to accept.
I'd rather screw mount than stake for ease of re-lamping down the road.

Regarding replamping. Trijicon itself offers a replamping service. You send them your slide and they will replace the tritium tubes without removing the sights from the gun, for a small fee.

I e-mailed Kahr today about the front sight only Trijicon and they do not sell them anymore. You can only get the set (front and rear). I'll still probably get the set and if I want to mount the rears I can. I'm just more comfortable with the screw. Seems like it will hold up better than staking.

I might order the set. Always wanted to install a rear sight :smash: , instructions are pretty clear from Kahr.
There is always the DP front sight. I know they are a good company, just I keep my guns forever and re lamping will be a consideration someday. No mention of that on their web page.
The plastic has to go. Works fine, just bugs me knowing its there and not up to the quality of the rest of the gun.

I was afraid the plastic front sight would just break off one day. I'd suggest to just send your slide to Kahr and have them install the sights for you. They charge $65.00 to press in the rear sight plus that includes them installing the front sight a, 2nd day shipping back to you, and it is warrantied. They charge the same price whether it is both front and rear or just the rear. I bought the front sight only and installed it myself. I quickly realized that I really needed the rear too. So, I bought that next assuming my local gunsmith would install it. I went to 4 gunsmiths and no one would touch it. I ended up sending my slide to Kahr to have it pressed in. I should have just done that in the first place, saved myself a few dollars in shipping, and been done with it.

Not really interested in novak. I really like the straight 8 design. Ill probably just go with the front Trijicon only.

One more question for u guys with a Trijicon front sight only? Does changing the front sight only change aim point?
One annoying thing about Dawson is that I ordered a front sight on the saturday after thanksgiving and afaik, it hasn't shipped yet...
