View Full Version : Why Gun Sales are UP

A local talk show host gladly admitted he was a "Religious, Conservative, Licensed Gun-toting American." He claimed that the sales of firearms of all sorts has reached an all-time high over the past 4-5 years, and posed THREE POSSIBLE REASONS why gun sales are up:

1. PERSONAL PROTECTION: People are becoming more aware of the need to protect their families and property from the growing population of thugs.

2. GOVERNMENT INTERFERENCE: More people believe the government, especially the current administration, is attempting (and may succeed) in removing our right to bear arms and controlling our freedom to possess arms and use such arms.

3. FINANCIAL SECURITY & FUN: Like investing in the restoration of old cars, people see guns as a great investment that can also give immediate gratification through personal enjoyment.

Personally, I feel all THREE are valid reasons. What think ye?

1. PERSONAL PROTECTION: People are becoming more aware of the need to protect their families and property from the growing population of thugs.
Random viscous crime, whether more prevalent or not, is a clear and present danger to us all.

2. GOVERNMENT INTERFERENCE: More people believe the government, especially the current administration, is attempting (and may succeed) in removing our right to bear arms and controlling our freedom to possess arms and use such arms.ARs, high cap mags and ammo in general seem to be flying off the shelves. I've never seen such an interest in firearms in my lifetime. People are starting to wake up and smell the coffee (or Cool-Aid in Obomanations case).

3. FINANCIAL SECURITY & FUN: Like investing in the restoration of old cars, people see guns as a great investment that can also give immediate gratification through personal enjoyment. I wouldn't want to try to buy my S&W 629 44 mag, S&W 342 ti 38 or Sig Sauer Nickel plated p220/45
at today's prices. I think all of my guns are worth more today than when I bought them. And should last a life time - or two LOL!

Maybe a huge part of the population getting older and feel more vulnerable.
Instantaneous spreading of fear and rumors through our E devices, zombie invasions, conspiracy theories.

I think that, more than anything else, it is a statement of belief in the Second Amendment and of defiance toward the career politicians and power mad bureaucrats who want to restrict us more and more and eventually take that right away. It is in essence a vote, an expression of the will of the people.

I may be paranoid, but that doesn't mean that someone isn't after me.

For me it's

#1 - fun activity with my son.
#2 - Occasional concealed carry when I'm doing a craigslist transaction or in a nasty part of the city.

I don't know whether to feel a compliment or an insult. Does bulls-eye mean right on target, or bull-sh!t? :p

I think people went crazy when Obama was elected and a ton of people bought firearms just to have one just in case he did something crazy.

A couple years have passed and now they realize what an awesome hobby shooting can be and are now going back for their second and third purchase. This is what I've noticed.

"In case he did something crazy"????? What else has he done for the last three years?

I know what you mean, but a lot of people were predicting a worse ban than Clinton's 1994 "assault" ban. Like a complete ban on semi-auto's.

And if the obwan gets in again you can bet it'll happen.

I buy them when I can. I'm always tweaking my collection to get it "fine tuned" to my needs and sometimes for my desires. Ex. CM9=need , Ar15 I'm building=desire

I'm thinking gun sales are up do to cut backs in police dept's. People are finally starting to realize that the police can not be everywhere. There for they can not protect you in many cases. It's up to us to protect ourselves weather it be on the streeets or in our homes. I can tell you for certain that I know people(mostly baby boomers) that never had guns in there homes that do now. Many also have carry permits that would have never have dreamed of doing so a few years back. Not saying they carry 100% of the time but they do carry at times. Not saying I agree with part time carry but hey it's there choice to do what they wish. I also think more women are choosing to carry firearms. These IMO are just a couple of reasons why I think gun sales are up. Expecially pistols and HD shotguns. IMO a 20 Ga HD shotgun with #3 buckshot for an elderly person who's eyesight, bone structure and muscle mass might not be what it used to be, or for smaller person is a good choice for home defense.

Police have no duty or obligation to prevent all crimes from happening, or to protect every citizen from any possible crime. They only respond, after some period of time, once a crime has been committed and reported. Do they do some crime prevention, such as radar traps and drug stings? Yes, but more and more people are waking up to the need to be ready to defend themselves and their families when crimes are attempted against them.
