View Full Version : My CM9 at the dealer/question

I just went to check out my new CM9 at my dealer. (he ordered it for me, but because of NJ's laws, I have to wait for a month or two to get it.) Anyway, my question is: I noticed that there is a small gap between the end of the barrel and the slide at the 12 o clock position. While I was there, I looked at a CW9 for comparison, and the same gap, although less pronounced was there also at the same 12 o clock position. Is this normal? Or a potential problem? Thanks, Rob.

PS- That sucks. I thought Gov. Christie was supposed to be a die-hard republican, where are the gun law repeals? lol

Christie is a former federal prosecutor. He is anti gun. He also has not answered 3 (emails, and phone calls) regarding his position on illegal immigration, which is a problem here in NJ. He sucks for a Republican, however, he is far and away better than anything else we've had here for Governor in recent memory....

is normal with most all semi's. other than blowback models. The barrel as u know when the slide retracts is actually caming downward so the barrel is in a tilt position and it that top gap was not there the slide and barrel would stick. My Glock is the same,

Thanks! You all were correct. I just looked at my S&W M&P 9 and M&P 40, they have the gap also. (never noticed it). But when you think of the barrel tilting, Jocko is right, it has to be there. I'm relieved.:D

Glad you asked the question Rob. I have ticket #1263 so if nobody else asks the question this year I win!!!! :)

Just teasing. That question comes along with the notch cut into the slide rail and several other that are perfectly normal to ask and welcome here. I and the rest want you to be comfortable with your gun and prefer you ask than have any concerns.

Wow, having to wait a few months! That is absolutely ridiculous.

Yes! 12 weeks or so for a permit to buy a single handgun. (you can get several permits). The local and state police do background checks, and your mental health records are checked. Then when you get your permit, you take it to wherever your buying your handgun (in state only) and if buying from an FFL, the NICS check for $15 happens. If buying from an individual, your permit has four pages, one for you, one for the seller, one for the local police and one for the state police( this is now a way to "register"). Then , you may purchase only one handgun at this time. If you have more permits, you must wait 30 days to buy another handgun. And if from a dealer, another $15 NICS check. Also, permits are only good for 90 days, so right before they expire, you must get a one time "extension" for another 90 days. This is NOT a law, but a "courtesy" provided by the local police chief, who initials your remaining permits. Is NJ f***ed up, or what?

So much for that gas bag Christie. He's another politician who panders and pays lip service to special interest. But when you really look at his accomplishments, there's nothing to there.

Holy crap, that is a long time and too many hoops to jump thru. I bought my cm9 about 5 weeks ago, filled out the paperwork on a laptop and was out the door in 40 minutes! Thats more like it.. I also bought a Smith 642 last weekend, filled out the papers and was out the door in 45 minutes! I have never heard of it taking that long.

I may be incorrect but I don't think anyone that gets elected Governor in any state north of VA could be a conservative and pro gun. That's what concerns me about......... Romney

I don't know. Maybe New Hampshire but I'm just not sure. Someone feel free to straighen me out if I need it.

And that boys (and the occasional girl) is why I love TX. Our CHL can save a phone call, and if you don't screw up an overly anal dealer's 4473, then you're in and out in five minutes tops, gun, ammo, and card run just like that. We even have some ranges with stores attached so we can shoot then and there.

How's Newt look to the NRA? I kind of like him, but he's kind of "scary" in some ways. Romney is definitely worrisome and I don't really have any warm, fuzzy feelings about any of the possible "Conservative" candidates. I'll vote for anyone but Obama, but I'm not crazy about any of the people running for the Republican Nomination, though anyone would be better than the pitiful excuse for a "Commander-in-Chief" that we have now... who feels he has to apologize for our great nation and its record of trying to help everyone else to our own detriment... at great cost in "wealth" and the blood of our armed forces' men and women.

This thread is jacked, how shocking! That being said they need to get one even marginally good candidate and get behind him 150% with no split on our side to choose from or for sure we are doomed with 4 more (if we make it that long) years with the monkey and cheeta in the white house.

I fear its already too late to get it done. I'll vote for anybody at all, I don't care.

Now back to our regularly scheduled CM9 at the dealer thread. Dueeast, I'd suggest a change of climate. I wouldn't tolerate rules like that for a single minute.

Walk in the store, pay for the gun, 1 short form to fill out, $5.00 1 minute background check phone call, and if you have a CCW permit out the door with the firearm. 3 day waiting period for someone who does not have a permit. Must be over 18 for long guns and over 21 for handguns. All in all a 5-8 minute process. Some of our stores have ranges or is that some of our ranges have stores. I used to live in NJ. I had my father in Florida buy my guns and I'd drive down, visit and bring my guns back to NJ. Plus bring ammo back too. You don't need a permit to own a gun in NJ, just to buy one in NJ. Same with ammo. Slim to none is the chances of getting a carry permit in NJ.

Wow, I didn't realize what some of you guys have to go through. You certainly have my sympathy, big time! I don't think I've ever taken more than 15 or 20 minutes to walk out with a gun here in Georgia and that includes all the paperwork. The hardest and most time consuming part for me is writing the check, especially if I'm buying a Kimber, SIG, or HK. All those numbers.........it's hard!

My rule for that O'dell goes like this: If I can't count as high as the price, then I don't need it, or if I cannot pull the cost out from the ATM in one day, then I don't need it.

Ouch! That ATM rule would eliminate all my pistols except the CW40 and the LCP.

same here in Indiana, really no hassle at all. Form 4473, one phone call to StatePolice for check and me and my handgun are on the way..

I have plenty of weapons, they just don't cost a mortgage payment or more. I also get to spend more on ammo that way.
