Yeah, I know - some of you could probably rattle of a list. :p
I don't like beer.
But, today I'm going to try once again and this time instead of grabbing the Natty's Light I'm going to swing over to the porters and try and find something there. From what I've read there are some chocolate/caramel ones that sounded pretty good, Breckenridge I believe is what the guy on the phone said he'd recommend.
Anyway, anyone have some recommendations of some brews to try this weekend?
Do you drink the dark beers warm or cold, bottle or glass?
I don't drink often, but when I do I'm pretty much a vodka kind of guy, but at family gatherings it sucks mixing drinks.

LOL! When I was a teenager, I hated beer. So, when my friends and I stocked up for a night of horsing around, they got beer and I got a big bottle of Ripple White Wine. (Sometimes went back and got a smaller bottle later. :blushing:) I like beer now, since my sense of taste has greatly diminished over the years. I never have liked brown liqueurs, either. White liqueurs for me. My favorite mixed drink is a Long Island Iced Tea. Have to watch out drinking those, though. They can sneak up on you! :puke:

I wouldn't count on it... Wouldn't be too concerned about not caring for beer either...
I say drink what works for you... Eat what works for you... Carry what works for you... And let others get over it... It's America... We have freedom of choice...

If you're looking for a toasty malty beer try Guinness. Drink it cool, not warm or cold.

IMHO the terms chocolate, caramel and beer just don't go together at all....Kind of like a honey dipped hotdog or something...I like all of them but not together...I say if you don't like beer then don't try and force it...
I have never liked hard liquor and the only beer I really like is Miller Highlife which is a good thing because it's cheap and available....I have tried many other brands both cheap and expensive but always end up back to Miller Time...
The worst hangover I can ever remember was drinking Heineken from a keg at a party from my younger days...I was in a coma for a day and sick as a dog for another when I came to and to this day I cant stand Heineken....

I never could find a beer that I liked either. Also, tried some of those fancy malt beverages with a fruity taste....still not to my liking. Would have saved me some money back in the day, but I don't drink enough now for it to matter. I just want something that I like. These days that might be a glass of wine, margarita, or desert coffee when eating out.

Try this. Young's Chocolate Stout. Take a beer mug or some type of glass and soak it, freeze for about 15 min, pour cold stout from 45* angle slowly to avoid head, pretty good alchohol content but very good.
For a slightly less motor oil consistency Newcastle Brown Ale will be well respected by your beer drinking peers. Serve one degree above freezing and that may very well be the best beer experience this world knows. To each his own obviously but Newcastle does not have the skanky aftertaste that some American lagers out of a can/keg have. Sometimes just the smell of them alone can affect taste negatively. It is available in mini kegs for 30 bucks or so at nice groceries. Keep it super cold.
I hated beer at a young age but now can pour anything down my gullet. Try these and tell me what you think. I've had a vanilla stout or 30 in my day too. Very underrated by traditional coors/bud/natty can fans as "pansy" or "girly" but I'm comfortable in my manhood they are absolutely fantastic.

Had one of those Wednesday. Very nice.
Had a Young's Double Chocolate Stout yesterday. Really like those as well.

OK, is it the beer or is that photo really friggin' blurry?
I think I might have one of those Young's in my self made 6'er that my beer guy helped me put together.
Just finished off the following:
Sand Creek Oscar's Stout Oatmeal Chocolate.
Drinkable, but not my thing.
Working on a Left Hand Brewing Company Milk Stout right now... smooth, thick, almost creamy...
I sense my post quality will be deteriorating, but dang - I LOVE YOU GUYS!
Ahem...
OK, back to the sampling.
Oh, yeah - I don't care what others think either... if it tastes good, I'll drink it, I don't care if it's pink and has an umbrella in it.

I'm gonna have to +1 on the Newcastle. Very good especially when drunk at the pub.
Don't know if it is available anywhere outside of Mexico, but a special brew for only the Christmas time in Mexico is Noche Buena. Man that is some really good stuff.

Damn you guys make me thirsty. After another full day unable to visit my favorite forum I come home and see this.
I love you guys too and I haven't even taken my medicine yet but it won't be long.
I think I'm gonna stick with the plain scotch again tonight.

Where are you, where you have access to all of these beers? The local 7-11 or a bar? I hope you have a DD or plan on taking a taxi home! :D

My favorite is probably George Killian's Irish Red. I also like Asahi(good luck finding a fresh bottle, if you don't it will not be good),Sam Adams Octoberfest, and Sapporo. I prefer dark beers but i drink different types of beer. I have to say Heineken and Guiness are some of the nastiest beers i've tried in my opinion but everyone has their own taste.

I can't drink 2 sips of Heineken, but the beer guy and I discussed that, I guess it takes 3 months to get it to the USA, by then it's lost all quality he said.

LOL
I stopped by the liquor store on my way home from work and had a guy help me out, did a little tasting to get an idea where my taste buds pointed and went from there.
I got a mixed 6 pack and a 6 of one that I liked... :D
Gonna sleep good tonight, I haven't had a drink in months!
Beer... take it or leave it.
Bourbon however, is a take it all or nothing beverage.
Give me a good bottle of Booker's Bourbon, when you can find one beyond advertised assay at about 130 or higher proof
I hate beer too- there's nothing wrong with you.
Give me a good hard cider- Strongbow or Magners any day.

Take a fishbowl of Budwiser and drop a double shot of Kessler's in it. Now that's what we call a mixed drink in Cleveland. In the Navy they call it a depth charge.
Bottoms up!

Beer compliments food very well. Try a pilsner with pizza ,even a good Italian beer like Peroni or Moretti. Or get a good steak and have a glass of Yuengling Lager from the tap.:D

I personally love the hops, wheat and/or barley, acorn, or the many other flavored available. Get me to a place that has good cheese curds and good beer and I'm happier than a fat kid in a candy store. I like Stella Artois but usually favor reds (Killians) for a usual drink.
I know a lot of people who don't like beer. Instead of trying out lesser known mainstream beer they tried some exotic brand and didn't like it. As much as I like to try different brands I like Miller products. I also like Michelobe Ultra from time to time and have been known to like the Busch throwback. The ONLY beer I cannot stand to drink is Coors and full diesel "Bud". To each his/her own, just keep trying until you find something you like...or...just drink what YOU like.

I like Miller Light on tap. Consistently very good, refreshing and no after taste. And when young I loved Michelob Dark on tap at a pizza restaurant I frequented as a hippie youth.

Theres some consistency here, many seem to like the Millers. I used to stick with the genuine draft miller. When the North Carolina and Missouri folks came out for my daughters wedding (them North Carolina boys can put away beer, let me tell ya) we had several cases of various beers. First one they would grab both Missouri and North Carolina was Busch. They drank all of all brands but all we got after that was Busch. I acquired a taste for it and while I don't drink much beer that's what I drink when I'm thirsty. My son apparently is training to stay with them and doing well in his training.

Budweiser (not light) and chocolate chip cookies. Sounds dumb but it is a flavor explosion might as well be Dom and Filet

I love beer! The hoppier the better! But if your looking to take a 6er to the fams get together of kick a few bottled alcohol brews back and dont like beer than try a Hard Cider. Woodchuck and Hornsby's both make an excellent cider. Try that out for size.

If you like porter or stout beers or any beers one brewer I really like is Sierra Nevada. Some of the Sam Adams is hit or miss, used to really like the wheat cherry then they changed the recipe and it does not taste the same. Breckenridge is another good brewery.
The only beer I could not stomach the taste of and even ask the bartender to take back was the Left Handed Milk Stout, but if you enjoyed it more power to you, and you can have my share ;)

I can't drink anymore, but when I did a cold dark St. Pauli Girl was my poison of choice. It has a much different flavor than American beers, and might be what you're looking for. I never got used to drinking beer at celler temperature no matter what type it was.

Found this on another site:
A handful of 7-year-old children were asked, 'What they thought of beer.'
Some interesting responses, .
'I think beer must be good. My dad says the more beer he drinks the prettier my mom gets.'
--Tim, 7 years old
'Beer makes my dad sleepy and we get to watch what we want on television when he is asleep, so beer is nice.'
--Melanie, 7 years old
'My Mom and Dad both like beer. My Mom gets funny when she drinks it and takes her top off at parties, but Dad doesn't think this is very funny.'
--Grady, 7 years old
'My Mom and Dad talk funny when they drink beer and the more they drink the more they give kisses to each other, which is a good thing.'
--Toby, 7 year old
'My Dad gets funny on beer. He is funny. He also wets his pants sometimes, so he shouldn't have too much.'
--Sarah, 7 years old
'My Dad loves beer. The more he drinks, the better he dances..
One time he danced right into the pool.'
--Lilly, 7 years old
'I don't like beer very much. Every time Dad drinks it, he burns the sausages on the barbecue and they taste disgusting.'
--Ethan, 7 years old
'I give Dad's beer to the dog and he goes to sleep.'
--Shirley, 7 years old
AND THE BEST RESPONSE:
'My Mom drinks beer and she says silly things and picks on my father.
Whenever she drinks beer she yells at Dad and tells him to go bury his bone down the street again, but that doesn't make any sense.' :o
--Jack, 7 years old
My favorite off the shelf beer is Fat Tire. A close second is Sam Adams Boston Lager. When I started homebrewing this fall I made a killer clone of FT. It disappeared pretty fast around here. Dang grown-up kids kept coming over for dinner and going home with another 6 pack of dad's homebrew . Thinking about trying something along the oatmeal stout line next, but still looking for a recipe...

I picked up another 6'er of the Breckenridge Vanilla Porter today and a 12 pack of Schell's Bock because I wanted something with a caramel flavor to it and they told me that's all they could think of.

i believe you can only get it in the midwest, but i almost religiously stick to boulevard. i buy 20 packs of the unfiltered wheat, along with a couple 4 packs of tank 7 (farmhouse ale) when i go to the LQ. in the summertime, i replace the wheat with zon, their belgium witbier, which is amazing.
for a couple months a year (early winter) you can get saison brett, a premium farmhouse ale which is hands down the best beer i've ever had. their bourbon barrel quad and chocolate stouts are also outstanding.
i drink them cold in a snotty beer glass.

That of course is the correct answer.
But I'm more of a Bourbon guy.
Only drink modest amounts a couple times a week, so when I do it has to be good stuff....
Wild Turkey 101, Maker's Mark, Woodford Reserve, Booker's are some good ones, but this is my favorite for sippin':

Smithwick's....pronounced "smitics". Or Yuengling....the oldest operating brewery in the US...if you prefer domestic; Shiner Bock out of Texas if you can't find that.
And I live in the heartland of Colorado craft breweries.
