View Full Version : Does this bother anyone else?

I was cleaning my PM40 last night and started to wonder why Kahr left the hole in the bottom of the grip behind the magazine...It looks like something is missing so I started to brainstorm with my few remaining brain cells...

I cut a piece off a black foam paint brush to the size of the hole and stuffed it down in there and cut it flush with the bottom of the grip and it now looks mo better but I'm sure there are better solutions...Any ideas out there and does it bother you or am I just weird (there's a lay up for y'all)

The Kahr is the only poly gun that I have with the hole in the grip exposed...MY M&P .40 has the hole but it is covered by a plastic extension on the base plate of the magazines and you don't see it and I wonder why Kahr left it like that...I also don't like the silver magazines in a DLC black gun and I want to try some of that stainless blackener but I haven't got around to ordering any yet

Any ideas on how rto make a more permanent "plug" to fill in the hole? Thanks as always!...

Glocks also have that hole. In fact, Pearce sells a plug for it. Others sell an enlarged mag well that also attaches to the hole. Glock also made a version that has a lock integrated into that hole. I wish someone would make a plug for the PM because it bothers me as well.

Why not use this to plug the hole. Very easy to work with and the end result will look like it was factory work. Product is call Acraglas Gel

Yep, although I hate to use them as an example for anything, Glocks have the same hole. It doesn't bother me a bit.

Same with my Glock 26. Never bothers me until someone brings it up... thanks a lot! :)

Lol Bill.

It comes up a lot with me every time I shoot/clean it. It just looks incomplete but since I can't really do anything about it, I'm not going to make that big a deal out of it lol.

A gratuitous picture for all the visual learners (myself included)

My MK40 has no such issue - LOL!
I did get a Pearce Frame Insert for my Talo EXO G27 and like it.

I came to Kahr from Glock... never stuck me as odd at all.

Maybe (I'm stretching) it is like that little vent hole charcoal lighter fluid cans have. Makes it easier to drop a mag or perhaps it vents pressure that builds briefly when a round is fired.

See! See! Someone else wants a "butt plug" for their Kahr.

At last, I'm not alone anymore. :)

That is strange. The Glock hole is there so you can clip in a leash. It doesn't look like the kahr has the same punched out hole on the backstrap. I'm not sure why you'd want to leash a ccw gun anyway.

I'm with ORsalesrep. I've used gallons of the acraglas gel and it would be perfect for filling that hole. I'd probably stuff it with something rather than fill the whole thing and add weight. Unlike the Glock where theres a path right up into the striker area I don't think theres a path on the kahr.

My PM45, the hollow is so small I could probably just fill it without any backing and be fine. Maybe I'll try doing that tomorrow for grins.

Nah. They want to keep weight minimized, and if it were plugged it would create a place where dirt, lint and crud could collect inside the grip.

Knowing just enough about injection molding to be dangerous...

There are things that structurally happen when the molding material gets thick - you begin to get structural stresses that dont happen when the material is thinner. What this means is you're either going to get warping, creeping, or even cracking. Hard to believe, but more is not better when it comes to plastic materials in injection molding. The other issue is the material changing with environmental factors - temperature, humidity. Yes, plastics are porous and change with humidity but heat is more of a factor, I'm sure, with the Kahr. Plastic that isn't there cannot deform.

Hide a hundred dollar bill in there and plug it, then you'll always have emergency funds.

I'm trying to remember the last time I saw a 100 dollar bill. Been awhile for sure.

Or maybe not. I've had three Kahr's stolen in the last year. That would be insult to injury.

I think that anyone who wants his butt plugged is just a little anal. :)

I had heard, and it's probably urban legend, that the gap in the Glock was incorporated to house some sort of pistol locking mechanism. I guess in speculation of some kind of legislation that might apply in the future.

That's me but only when I'm reloading. Just got out of the man shed after loading up 200 rounds of 38+P and 100 rounds of 357 mag.

Not too worried about the 38+P but when you load a 357 hot.....you darn well better be anal :59:

Oh, there is a natural place to put your trigger finger. Been there since God made Adam. Of course, there's a lot of slow drivers who need to get their finger out of there and hit the gas! When I encounter someone going 20 in a 35 zone, I say they're going butt-finger miles an hour! :w00t:

No, I was talking about the hole that BOTH sexes have. But I think I would prefer the one you're talking about!!! :D:D:D
