regarding mk9, can you break the stock plastic guide rod and use the stock springs with the wolff guide rod set?

I don't know the exact answer to that.

But I can tell you that's what I had to do
when I got a Stainless Steel guide rod for my MK40 from Kahr.
I got just the guide rod and instructions
to use the existing springs from the plastic one.

The original doesn't disassemble and had to be cut open.
Be careful, it's under pressure and parts will go flying.
Mine had two springs and a sleeve that were transferred to the new rod.
Then compressed and loc tight the cap on.
Wait 24 hrs and open fire.

Good Luck

there is no cap on the wolff, just wasn't sure if the stock recoil springs had to be captive or can be used free with the wolff guide rod

I did the same setup myself but went with the heavier poundage springs as per your recomendation, Jocko. Was having extraction issues at the time.

I considered the stainless guide rod kahr has on the website, but the added cost and the caption "may need fitting" drove me to the wolff setup.

I think "may need fitting" is CYA.
Mine was drop in perrrrrrrrrrrfect.

Was it Steve? Bedair that made stainless guide rods, I'm not sure I got the name right but that's the one I put in my K40. He had the checkered end meat tenderizer or the smooth polished.

Seems like it was about the same money but free shipping or something.
Hasn't come up in awhile.

In hindsight, I don't recall he made one for the MK, forgot it was different than the K.

Mmmmm
I'm dyslexic and don't remember.
Someone else will chime in.
I think it was the permanent one (red?)
A gunsmith told me it really isn't permanent.
And you can get it off later to replace the springs when needed.

Update:
Email technical questions to service@kahr.com
Contrary to popular (or unpopular) belief;
Kahr service has been very good to me.
They have responded with quality answers to my questions.
Like how many rounds before recoil spring replacement
Usually within 24 hours.

I would stick with the red,if need be u can break it loose with little or no effort. Would be a real bit-h with big bolts and nuts but in this case this is a small threaded nut and it will break free easily..

I think the captured double recoil spring may be the deal breaker for MKs

I did get a Bedair for my P220 though.
I've heard price and quality is outstanding.
Passed on the meat tenderizer look too.

I want my P220 back bad.
Should be here any day with a new SS slide!
Nobody knows if it's natural stainless or Nitron though.
Guess it will be a surprise.
At this point I told them I'll take it either way and be happy.
Just want my baby back by Xmas....
