or significant other carry. I'm looking for a Concealed Carry Weapon for my wife. I'm definitely gonna let her have the final say, I just want to nudge her along;). I know the first choice would be the CM/PM9, but my wife can't rack the slide on mine even after 350 or so rounds. I DEFINITELY don't want her out there with a weapon she can't rack the slide on. She loves the size of the CM/PM so we're definitely looking for a smaller 9mm. Interested in what your wife/SO carries!

BUY HER A SMITH AND WESSON HAMMERLESS j FRAME If she is not totally gun savvy like members here, then any semi is gonna be a challenge for her. Notjust pulling thetrigger, that isthe easy part. clearing a jam, loading and unloading the gun etc. kids around the homne etc, she has to bne totaly confident in that gu and know how to clear it etc and empty it etc and load it etc.

Arevolvber is just that simple for a womjan and with these new airweight Smiths out there in hammerless, it should be perfect for her.

Ur right in letting her have the last decision...

My wife carries a S&W "J" frame 642 and she can shoot it very well. My wife has been around guns all her life and she can out shoot most men including me, but when it came time to choose her own carry weapon she made the choice herself with knowledgeable help but no pressure to choose any particular gun. She loves the simplicity of the S&W 642 nothing to rack, no safety to remember to take off just point and shoot. She loves to shoot my semi-autos at the range but they are not her choice for a personal defense weapon. I am happy with her choice as she is very comfortable with it and therefore carries it all of the time. My advise is to find someone at your LGS that will spend sometime with your wife and she should pick her gun herself.

Not long ago I tried a compact Bersa that had a very easy to rack slide. But i can't remember the model number.

She's pretty gun savvy, Right now she carries a Bersa Thunder40UC. It's a little heavy, but she can rack the slide. She had a Ruger LCR that locked up between cylinders, and wouldn't budge. She worked out in her mind that a revolver rarely fails, but when it does it's usually inoperable. We got it freed up, but when we rotated it without rounds it did it again. I will definitely try to sell her on S&W quality.

Suggest a S&W snubby. Let her handle and try them at a GS or show. The 642 is a good choice, but I prefer the 638, with the option of shooting it SA for better control given time to **** it, but always ready to just pull the DA trigger. And rather than trying to **** that little tab with a thumb, do it very quickly and confidently using the heel of the weak hand, guided by the smooth shroud. Just my preference.

I was planning to get my wife the 642 but in the back of my mind I remembered the 638, I think Jfootin has one coming too.
It has the shrouded hammer so you can thumb the hammer and get a good single action shot if you need too.
I'm not nuts about the looks of it but I think it's close to perfect. Won't get hung up on junk in the purse, double action if in a hurry, thumb the hammer for target practice or if she has time.
Plus I need to make some handles for Jfootin and I need a model.

As mentioned she will have the final say and we have been looking. I almost went with a model 10 that taxfolia was selling, wrote the check, had it in the envelope, still on my desk but wife sort of changed her mind so I had to back out on that one.

for over 40 years, for women it is a mental thing. If they fear it, THEY WILL:NOT CARRY IT.If they can't do certain things with it THEY WILL NOT CARRY IT. A woman can easily load and unload a revolver, she can physically see it is empty, all 5 or 6 holes, she can't put the rounds in backward, she might not shoot it as acurate as maybe a semi but that is for her to work out also. If she likes it and feels good about it then she will want to learn. 38spl is no pu-sy round so a woman if she shoots 50 rounds might be more than enough for one outting. Range time is important, that is for sure. she needs to be close to no more than 7 yards, Big targets, "Q": type quantico type silhouette targets, she will build confidence real fast. There are some nice rounds for home use if the woman has any kids around, Corbon glaser ammo is great stuff, the silver tipped ronds are very very good and won't shoot her kids out of their bed in the next room. Shotshells do well, won't kill but won't go ooutside the walls in the room she is in either. BG doesnt really know what she is shooting either.

Not sure but if she wanted a true in house gun that the JUDGE might not be a great defense gun with the 00 buck shot in it. accuracy is not near as important with buckshot

The key to awoman carrying a gun is confidence that she doesn't have to think about a damn thing in case she needs it. any manual safety on a gun to me is a nO No, for again unless she is someone like Melissa on this forum, most women will not rember the safety lever or button. It has to be a pull the gun point it squeeze the trigger and BANG. That is the nice thing about a wheel gun,if she pulls the trigger on her PM9, and nothig happens, she can probablyt kiss her ass good buy but with a wheel gun, if nothing happens she just pulls again and goes to another cylinder hole and a good round.

In my mind I don't equate 90% of most women in the same class as Melissa and a few other gals on this forum. Being in gun business I seen few Melissa's. they are unique IMO and need no instructions or advice on what to carry and how to shoot it but normally guns scare women and if kids are around, it scares them even more:israel:

The wheel gun prevails IMO

My wife had no interest in carrying, but I'd rather have her carry a .22 that she shoots well than something she's afraid to shoot.

Unfortunately, it's not going to happen any time soon.

Yeah, my payment posted to my bank account Friday, but I haven't received a shipment notice, yet. Funny thing, Bud's has now removed the plain sighted 638 from their website, leaving only the one with the CT laser grip and an assortment of other snubbies. But Jet Guns has a better deal than I got at Bud's on the 638, and they are in stock:

The hump back is growing on me. As this pic with grips like I want Bawanna to make for me shows, it is a handsome gun! :D

I think the Smith & Wesson 60LS is a great gun to check out for her. It shoots .357. But, she can use .38 or .38 +P. It is a very high quality firearm. Single or double action. But the hammer is small and not likely to snag on anything. My ex loves it. It is worth a test drive.

S&W website info (http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product4_750001_750051_765590_-1_757912_757910_757787_ProductDisplayErrorView_Y).

Cheaper Than Dirt (http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/2SW162414FC-1.html) has it.

maybe slowly taking her with you to the range and just letting her smell the gun powder, who knows.. A 22 sure beats NOTBING but again in a defense situtaion more than likely she ain't gonna hit any better with a 22 than a 38 or 380. I have seen some women out at our club range that damn near close their eys when they squeeze that trigger even. It takes time and patience on the males part to get a woman who has never been around guns to want to shoot andeventualy carry.

Here in NJ, she, like myself cannot legally exercise our right to self defense. In our home, it's another matter. She knows where and how to use our revolvers. A 38 downstairs, another 357 loaded w/38 w/laser sights in the nightstand, and a 12 ga. pump under the bed....I hope she NEVER has to touch them, but she knows how to if needed.

Yeah, lots of time. She used to deer hunt with her dad, she's good with a gun - we've been to the range and she shoots well, just has 0 interest in owning, carrying or going to the range. Once a year we'll go (it's what I have the family do on Father's Day), other than that it's me or me and the kids, she won't go.

My theory is you take them somewhere where they can hold and then shoot several. My wife chose a Glock 23. She doesn't carry as often as I would like, but when she does, she carries a weapon with which she has confidence.

A year or so ago, I decided to get Vickie a carry gun. When we determined she couldn't consistently rack the slide on my LCP or any other 380 we tried, I ended up getting her a KT P32.

I wish I could get the wife to get her CC permit. She's not interested for some reason but she does shoot with us at times. The thing that bothers me is in my opinion she could be a target. she is aware of her surroundings though. Funny thing is she does want an escort when she goes some places so guess who ends up going............

I think she would defend the home though. If she didn't my daughter knows the drill and I think she could.

My wife carried a SW 638. Just couldn't handle the recoil and therefore, did not want to practice. In the end, she decided that it was too heavy in her purse. I went out on a limb and bought her a Keltec P32. She loves it; she shoots it; she carries it; 'nough said.

My SO did her own research and decided that she wants a Sig P238 as her CCW. She is fairly petite at 5'5" or so and 110 lbs and felt that the P238 would be something that she could carry on her body rather than in a purse.

She was originally considering both a Glock 26 and a Beretta Storm sub-compact but decided they were both just too thick for her to conceal on her small frame.

Actually, she shot the P40, and my P45 at the same time, and in order to keep my P45 I had to get her the CW45. I have a rule in my house, no 9mm or 380, or anything that ends in special. I figure why have the little stuff when I can have the magnum versions and still shoot the special. As for the auto side, well, no 9mm or smaller, not including .357 magnum, 7.62x25 Tokarev, and .22. The Tok can be a defensive piece with the little hollow points that I have, but the 22 is a fun gun and serves well as a snake charmer.

My wife struggled with my CW9 slide and operation so Kahrs went out the window for her. She tried the P238 and liked it but when she picked up a Glock 26 she fell in love with it and shot very well. Slide and other operation is no problem for her.

Had a CCW instructor recommend ladies against hammerless revolver due to finger strength required for first shot in a stressful situation. Claimed accuracy was to poor to take a chance on when speed was important. Train to pull the hammer back during the draw and trigger pull was not much of an issue.

Excuse me while I go buy more ammo for the wife.

My sweetie works near a range, and ran in during her lunch to rent the Sig p238. She loves the sights and says the recoil is nothing to speak of. She only shot 80 rounds through it, but she was impressed. I'm a little worried about a single action handgun, but her first handgun was a Springfield 1911.

I love my CW45, just do not get enough trigger time...Schedule just doesn't allow for it. Luckily having a range date night coming up soon.

Next purchase is the Ruger SR40c. Haven't shot it yet, but have shot the SR9c, and since we don't have any 9mm in the house, it's the SR40c. The SR9c was a DREAM to shot. I can only imagine what the SR40c shoots like.

My wife WAS anti carry, but after a year of training, educational classes and a bad experience, she now carries a S&W Bodyguard 380. Before we purchased, she looked at every 9mm and 380 on the market. She did not like revolvers...just an appearance thing. She did not like the stubby sights on most 380 and could not work the slide on alot of handguns on the market. She can easily work the slide on the BG380, likes the built in laser, shoots it well, likes the compact, lightweight, comfortable carry piece with decent sights (not the snubbies like you find on most 380's) and with an external safety...all found on the BG380. It is priced right and has been a very reliable performer for her. Never a single failure of any kind and it eats any 380 ammo. I prepped it properly and worked the slide to break it in for her. She likes her fanny bag when she walks (for exercise) and the Remora for everything else. If you are looking for a nice, compact, reliable gun for your wife...check out the BG380 and Hornady's Critical Defense ammo. Folks may say the 380 is too small for SD, but we feel better about her carrying the 380 than nothing at all.
