Mine don't look like much being probably 10 years old but it's a Mitch Rosen gun belt and still plenty stiff.
Your absolutely correct, a decent belt makes all the difference.
It's sometimes difficult to get people to understand that.
I've always preferred wearing a belt, just never like casual. When I hit the chair sweat pants became the order of the day for convenience and I still often resort to them in the evening after work etc but I'm trying to stick with regular grown up mens britches. At night I go for my knife for something and it's not there cause I don't got my belt, like rolling around nekkid.
