I wanted to get an idea from others that own the CW45 which type of guide rod came stock on their firearm. As mentioned in another thread my guide rod is cut with no bevel at the end and it has been a source of pain getting the spring/guide rod assembly in place after take down. Please sound off with the type of guide rod that came with your firearm.

chuck it up in a drill and with a flat file, bevel it. might take 2 minutes..
Another +1 on beveling it yourself. I would make a jig that allows me to bevel at 45* just to make it look factory if I was going to do it. just cut a piece of 2x4 and nail it to a piece of wood at a 45* angle and wala.. easy as that. :)

Did any of your CW45's come stock with a beveled guide rod?
I'm just trying to get an idea on the common experience of other CW45 owners and whether their firearm came with a guide rod that had the bevel.
Ummmm, On the bottom pic, It sure looks beveled to me... poorly focused and bad lighting aside.
If you want to add more bevel just do it like suggested above.

As you know, my CW45 has a bevel on it's guide rod. FWIW, the guide rod in my CW9 has a bevel as well.

Chuck in in a drill or drill press and go to it. Makes a cheap lath for non critical stuff.
Five minutes with a dremel and the problem is solved. Added just enough of a bevel that the guide rod easily starts through the hole and allows the other end to clear the breech end of the barrel. So what took minutes of fidgeting now takes two seconds.

I picked up my new CW45 today, and did the prep and lube, and then spent about 20-30 minutes trying to get that damned guide rod back in, I got to thinking they sent me the wrong spring or rod or something. Then I must have held it just right and it slipped right in. My guide rod is cut square, no bevel. Next time I take it apart it's getting beveled. Or I might order that stainless steel one. Glad to see I'm not the only one having problems. Man I love this forum. Seems like everything I come across has been discussed before. What a great resource to have available. I been racking the slide now for awhile, feel it's loosening up some, man this gun is tight. I wonder if the guide rod would be any easier to get in and out now. Not taking any chances finding out though until I'm ready to do some beveling.
I have the CW40 and wasn't expecting a wrestling match to get the guide rod back into the CW45. It pops right in and out of the CW40, but it has the beveled guide rod. It seems like they could take an extra 2 minutes to bevel that for us at the factory. I think I'd rather do my taxes again then have to put that guide rod back in, and I HATE doing taxes.
Once you add the bevel inserting the guide rod is a piece of cake. That <1mm of bevel makes all the difference. Without it getting the perfect alignment required to make the insertion, given the angle, tolerance between the rod and hole, and especially while compressing the spring, is a real piece of work, which we both found out via trial and error.
how about any of the after market stainless rods, are they beveled.
Has anyone written to kahr and advised them of how hard and how easy it is when the recoil rod has the bevel on it??? Who knows today mighgt be the day that some might be listening...
Steve Bedair's has a bevel according to the pictures on his sight. $25.00 for the P45 rod. I think that works in the CW45.
Can't get a good enough look at the Kahr shop pics to tell if theirs are or not.
One of the issues that may come into play if you decide to do the work yourself is what impact it will have if you ever need warranty work done on the firearm. My guess is there may be some fine print that says if you alter the firearm in any way it voids the warranty.
i serioulsy doubt if any one puts a taper on the end of the recoil rod that it will void any warranty. I seriously doubt if kahr would even notice it and being that most after market recoil rods are beveled on the end for easier insertion, sounds to me like kahr is behind times.
I bought my CW45 this last Feb. and it came with a beveled guide rod and I think is about 3" long.
Now, I'm going to see if I modify the top sharp edge of the slide (front to back) to make it look and feel better when carry it. This will make it look (+/-) like the PM45.
Has anyone done this by any chance?
With the $25.00 you DO get stainless steel. And you can get one with a checkered pattern if that trips your trigger. I will probably go the cheap route and save the $25.00 to put towards some extra mags.

Most all gun manuals tell you not to fokk with there guns. They don't want people messing with their guns. Very easy to understand that. I don't see this guide rod thing being even in the same ball park as a modification. But if one is worried about it, like Tucson stated, just keep an extra on hand. Most of the after market guide rods are beveled, so why kahrs are not is maybe a cost saving thing, or something that hell they didn't specify when they had the vendor make them for kahr either.
Second post and second modification to my gun. Wow, I love this site. This was bugging the hell out of me too. I'm no gun expert but the cw45 guide rod was making me look like a pansy when I was trying to reassemble the gun in front of my father in law (Ex Marine and retired police officer). He got it to go in but it took a little maneuvering. I kept practicing and got a little better but it always took me a good 5 minutes. After reading this post at work I was relieved, my guide rod was the same, no bevel. I came home, got the dremel out and put a small bevel on the end. Now it installs like a breeze. :)

I asked them to put a bevel on the guide rod when I sent my Kahr in for service, and they did it, and it's much easier to install than before it was beveled. I doubt if adding a bevel would void your warranty, it's something they should do at the factory before releasing the gun. If you have another Kahr, just try and duplicate the bevel the best you can, and they will probably not even notice.
My cw45 rod is not beveled. Something about that tight fit, just right spot to get it to go in,makes me feel good that I got it there. So what I have to struggle a little bit.lol
How does the end look polished any pics?
This is a picture of a beveled guide rod. Actually this may be a little overdone. It took me two minutes with a dremel to take off just enough of the squared edge of the guide rod to get it to insert smoothly without a hassle.Quote:
