Thread: Is the MK9 Elite too Shiny?

  1. #1

Default Is the MK9 Elite too Shiny?

Im trying to choose between the elite and the matte version of the MK9 and was curious if the glossy stainless steel would blind you with reflections in the sunlight. Any thoughts or experiences?

I have a matte mk9 & a mk40 that I bought matte but hand polished to shiny. I have never seen an actual Elite in person but I suspect it is not as shiny as my mk40. As far in the sunlight I think the shiny one would blind someone else. It is IMO personal taste for how you want your gun to look.

I recently got a MK9 Elite and was pleasantly suprised to see that it wasn't what I would call shiny at all.

    I have an MK40 Elite.
It's a polished stainless, but too shinny?
Blind you with reflections in sunlight? LOL!
    No way.
    Don't even worry about that.

BTW If I remember correctly the Elite models have sort of melted treatment where the sharp edges are smoothed.
Like the slide release for example.
Plus the feed ramp is polished and the mag well is beveled.
I think it's well worth the extra money.
It's like the regular MK is sent to the custom shop for mods
that would cost you alot more if you did it after the fact.
Elite is more than just a polished finish.

The slide on the Elite03 is polished on the sides, but the top retains the matte finish, plus the sights are black. So I don't think it will be a problem. It hasn't been a problem with my CM9 that is mirror polished all over.

If you want it black, though, check out the Duracoating at Ahlman's...

    Very interesting...

That's another reason I wanted to go with the Elite, the additional love they gave the components.
