    Default Recoil spring help requested

I recently had my old-style PM9 retrofitted with the new barrel and slide. They gave me a longer recoil assembly, but with a 13 coil spring. My question is: if the guide rod portion is updated for the new slide version, does the outer spring matter if it is 13 or the 15 coil spring? It functions with the old 13 coil one. Thanks!

That is kind of what I was thinking. I think the old spring had less coils but is just as "springy" as the new spring with 15 coils. I think the inner assembly is the critical component. Wouldn't you?

Your most likely fine, heard of others using the shorter spring with no issues.
But in your shoes I'd send an email or call Kahr and let them know what you have.
They just might send you the 15 coil spring to make sure. If not your out nothing. And the piece of mind is worth it in my book.

Not long ago I received a replacement recoil assembly from Kahr when the one in my PM9 failed.

I have the newer PM9 that is suppose to run with the 15 coil spring and this was made perfectly clear when I "talked" with CS via e-mail but...they sent me the 13 coil unit. Truth be told, they sent me two assemblies, both are the same.

My PM9 runs 100% with the shorter recoil assembly, go figure.

Just remember that springs are designed to be longer and take a "set" under compression. Coil count is important but designs change. Don't just shorten one!

I think that the outer is the more important and the ONLY one to be changing, as the other requires breaking that "permanent" bond of the nut on the end of the recoil assembly.
