I have two 1911's with checkered front straps, and MSH. Another one with the "chain link" pattern, don't care for it.
But after carrying the two checkered ones (one CCO, one full size). I now put skate board tape on any pistol with a smooth front, including my K9 and MK9. Just feels right. I have not tried the Wilson Combat add on, mentioned in another thread. The recent RIA 1911 in .40SW has a few lines down the front strap, similar to a Beretta M9. While not as grippy as checkering it works pretty good. Since I carry a 1911, most of the time (K9 on hot summer days), I worry about slippage when the SHTF.

It slides right into the channel on both guns Colonel. It overlaps the contour of the frames on both the Tisas and the Kimber so... just as you surmised and Ed Brown stated it would require mods to the frame for a proper fit.

It is a complete MSH with plunger, pin, spring, and cap (Part No. 816S-BT). It's yours if you want it Colonel, send me your address again and I'll get it to you.

When I ordered mine John I thought it was an all steel gun. The hang tag even said forged frame and slide. But apparently they are forging their aluminum frames too?

It came with a tag that said forged frame and slide, series 70 internals. Maybe the tag is generic for all their models. Their website says they use no MIM parts, so the MIM-haters will be happy.

The Kimber I bought has a dimpled front strap, and I like it a lot. The skateboard tape works really well on smooth straps though and another thing it has going for it is that a ring worn on the hand can't harm the finish. I shoot left handed sometimes and my wedding ring does come into contact with the frontstrap. While it won't hurt the metal, the finish on some of these guns is not as robust as it could be. The tape protects against damage from a ring.

Not sure what is up with the tags John, but if the frame is not actually forged it shouldn't be labeled as such. I wonder if they are actually cast, but the two terms can be used interchangeably?

I think every one of my guns has a ring mark. I'm not a jewelry guy but wife had a ring made for me long before we married. Crossed revolvers which is pretty cool in my eyes. So I wear it. I can't even pick my nose properly or anything else with my left hand so the wedding ring isn't much of a bother.

    Not a new gun.
But added three 17 round mags and a Crimson Trace laser to my Hk VP9

Looks good. You must have pretty good size hands, that's a big back strap hanging on there. The laser seems to mold right in nicely.

LOL, I have small "girl like" hands actually.
But I don't mind large grips for some reason...
Have two VP9s and one P30.
All run the Large back strap with Small side panels.
That combination fits like a glove (even with 17 round capacity!)

    Yes the laser fits perfectly.
Have the same type of laser on my pocket carry Ruger LC9s Pro as well.
    Crimson Trace does it right!

Yeah, as lasers go the one on your VP9 is the best looking I've seen on a trigger guard. Variety is truly the spice of life!

    I like the look/fit too.
But Crimson Trace having the actuator button on the grip is a real game changer for me.
Just wrap your fingers around the grip and the laser is on.
