I ran the numbers on a hybrid, and the gas savings didn’t offset the higher purchase price.

It is kind of like my neighbor whom is saving the planet....he bought both an battery powered snow blower and lawn mower. He gets about a third of his yard grass done on a charge and about a quarter of his driveway cleared on a charge. Then it takes at least 4 hours to re-charge. Got a kick out of watching him shovel out in order to go to work.

Some battery-powered stuff is okay. All of my yard tools and hand tools are Ryobi-One-powered and I have a dozen or so 4-AH LI batteries and many charging "stations", but my mower is a John Deere Lawn Tractor.
I don't miss pulling those recoil starting handles... over... and over... or dragging electric cords.

With the tractor I just take my rubber mallet out with it and if the starter won't engage, smack it with the mallet until that thing pops up into the gear. I replaced the starter once, by misdiagnosis and need to put the old one back in, but too much trouble... as long as the mallet works.

I like technology and got all of the bells and whistles on my new van, but it's gas-powered and the hottest engine I've ever had with the twin turbos and sub-7 times in the 0-60 MPH testing.

I can't see the often need to recharge and how long it can take... when you find a recharging station.
One of my favorite "memes" was the all proud of himself guy with an electric car walking over to the guy filling up his Corvette or whatever, and asking him what kind of mileage he got. The 'vette guy said it takes him 3 minute to fill up... and the other guy just shuts his mouth and walks back to his car.

Our electric grid is really shakey and not sufficient for demand now... and... we can't build new power plants with all of the restrictions. How can we expect to meet demands of a closer to ALL-electric society and those demands. We can't cover the entire countryside with SOLAR panels and unreliable windmills. The latter are needing replacement or major repair after as little as 7 years... and make lots of noise and kill lots of wildlife... massive amounts of birds, and even eagles.

I would be careful using mallet on starter. They are not like the starters of older days. Today's starters use magnets and not the copper windings of the past. I did like you on my snow blower a few years back and shattered the magnets with only a lite tap. The new starter was over $200 so I ended up just using the pull start.

I am ANTI TECHNOLIDGY. The TECH is great as long as it DON'T FAIL. When it does it costs and arm and a leg to fix. For example, the Toyota GPS is about 2 grand to replace. You can buy a Garman GPS for under a hundred. My NEWEST vehicle is a 2015 Impala RS. My wife loves her old 99 Jeep Cherokee. Easy and cheap to fix and they run forever. For winter I have my 2008 4Runner.
