I had the TRS-80 16K and then the Model III with 32K RAM. I also got custom 360K double sided floppies, but the interface gave me problems. A "green screen" helped with the slow refresh rate a little bit on the early B/W monitors. I have 2ms refresh monitors now. No GUI back then... TRSDOS and BASIC programming.
Fluorescent lights drove me nuts in my office after getting off a crew before retirement from the USAF.
I used to carry the TRS-80 setups, HAM radios, and other toys on USAF alert tours... even had a full HF setup with antenna cable out the door from the underground alert facility in the 70's and 80's. B-52's at Dyess AFB, Abilene, TX.

And practiced jumping off the roof on to the mattresses for fun.

I thought those were space age marvels, but were out of my price range at the time.

Side note: Jon Shirley, the guy who led the expansion of Radio Shack & the Tandy Corporation, then later the CEO of Microsoft, was a classmate of my oldest brother at the Antilles Consolidated School when we were stationed in San Juan, Puerto Rico during the early 1950s.

I was unaware of Jon’s lofty career until a few years ago.

I used to love Radio Shack, it was a wonderland of really cool stuff if you were a nerd like me…..Back in the day I thought I was on top of technology but these days it has run me over…….I need a grandchild to fix my TV remote so I can watch “The Rifleman” reruns….Still hoping

    Hold me mommy, I'm skeered!
