    Default Sentimental family story

A poster on the Colt gun forum was reminiscing about the time he presented his dad with a Colt SAA .45 for all his help.
That reminded me when my brothers & I did the same, so I replied with this:

    “Great story!
In 1980 my two brothers & I did much the same thing for our retired Army Dad’s 70th birthday.
He was a big fan of the TV show Gunsmoke since it first debuted in the 1960s - we even listened to it on the AFRT(radio) while stationed in Taiwan during the late 1950s. William Conrad was the radio voice of Matt Dillion at that time.
Although we had a few family heirloom firearms, Dad never bought any new ones for himself.
So to show a small token of our appreciation for being our dad, we presented him with a beautiful new blued Colt SAA .45 with 7.5” barrel. We three boys split the cost and I purchased it at a local discount store for $325.
My oldest brother crafted a very nice felt-lined walnut case with a brass presentation plaque that fit it perfectly. A box of ammo was fitted inside the case.
The wood came from an old family homestead in Missouri.
We presented it to him at a big family gathering for his birthday, and of course he & our Mom were stunned & emotional.
He passed away in 2002 without ever shooting it, but it was treasured by him throughout his remaining years.
My oldest brother owns it now and his son will inherit it soon.
(And no, it is not kept in the felt lined case, but in a silicone gun sock)”
A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition

Great thing your brothers and you did for you dad. Somewhat along the same lines, but not quite. Before I was born, my dad bought a Steven sideXside 12 ga that he used for a number of years. As a kid, I borrowed if few times and loved that gun. As he got up in years, he was no longer to use a 12 ga as it just kicked to much for him. I searched for a while until I found a Stevens side by side in 20 ga. He never used it for hunting but he did shoot some clays with it a few times. I have them both now as he passed away a few years ago. I have a few that him and my mom passed on to me, and my brother has the others. The two that mean the most to me by far are that of Stevens and an old Win Mod 94 in .32 Win Special. Hunted with both of the when I was young and still pull them out to hunt or just to shoot now and then.
