    Default HELP, PM45 Problem

Haven't seen this one before. Went shooting today with a friend. We ran a couple of mags through the gun and then the problem started. I shoot the gun, it ejects the cartridge, loads a new round but doesn't reset the trigger. So I have a unspent round in the chamber, I pull the trigger and and there is no resistance. I clear the chamber pull back the slide and load the same round and then the gun shoots. But then the same problem occurs again. I can only shoot one round. Has anyone ran into this before? I was shooting Federal ammo, 230 gr FMJ RN. If I had different ammo, I would have tried to see if that was the problem. On the last mag, I did shoot 2 in a row before the problem started again.

You just described the final straw with my P45. Had been back twice previously half the trip on my dime as I was new to Kahr and didn't ask. Feed ramp polished twice. Ran well for 6 months then when the trigger problem you just described came out of nowhere it was sent back a 3rd time on them and had slide stop pin, spring, and new trigger bar. Even though it fired afterwards enough was enough as I had 4,000 perfect rounds through a couple K9's at that point.

It could be the trigger bar has gotten damaged or out of line... or something else. Problems like that usually need to go back to Kahr for resolution.

Mine had weird problems... load chamber, then could pull trigger to the rear without discharge. Letting the trigger go back forward, it would reset and then could be fired... back it went to Kahr.

Others have had this problem and can chip in here.

This is not good and unreliable for self-defense situation. Emphasize this and try to get them to pay for shipping.

The weird thing is, if I hand rack it, I have no problem with the trigger. I can even push the slide back part of the way and the trigger will re-engage.

i thinhk you have a very out of time semi. More than likely it is the trigger bar, but it also could be the slide which looks in full battery is not and there for a "dead" trigger.

Send the damn thing back on their dime. call them and insist they pick up the tab to send it back. I am assuming the striker channel is spiffy clean to.

just to test out a theory, how about when u get this dead trigger pushingin hard on that right side side plate and while pushing in on it, see if u can pull the trigger and if anything changes..

I haven't been able to replicate the problem when hand racking, it fires every time. So I'll have to go shoot it again to see if what you're suggesting will change anything. Striker is clean.

The most likely reason you can't duplicate the problem when hand racking is that you can't do it at the same rate as a live round does.

Like Jocko said, sounds like it's a timing issue and will probably have to go back to Kahr to be fixed.

Thinking a couple of things -

First, whenever a problem such as this happens, it pays to do a really thorough cleaning to the gun.

The next thing - I doubt the trigger bar itself is damaged. Its pretty stout. Maybe check the spring for it, to make sure it freely moves back UP into the firing position - again, gunk in the gun may be the issue.

After that, check the cocking nose on the striker. Has it broken? Check the cocking tip on the cocking cam. Has that broken? How bout the cocking cam spring? Maybe its not right.

That's the places to look. If you eliminate "gunk in the gun" - then off to Kahr it ought to go.

If you find an obviously broken spring.... you can probably save time and hassle and let Kahr replace the spring, for you to install yourself.

    Default My fix

Hi guys. Just joined the forum as I was looking for a fix for this exact problem. Well, I didn't find it here so I dug into it myself and here's what I found.

    1) The trigger would reset all day long manually racking the slide, but if I pulled upwards on the slide while racking it the trigger would not reset.

    2) I took the slide off and while manually pushing down on the trigger bar tab (that sticks up for the slide to engage, push down and reset the trigger) I noticed it was reseting the trigger below the level that the slide could depress it.

    3) Upon further inspection I noticed the tab (red arrow in attached picture) that engages the cocking cam (blue arrow in attached picture) was bent up at enough of an angle that it required the trigger bar to be pushed down below the level that the slide could depress it.

    4) I manually bent the tab down about 5-10 degrees and reassembled the pistol (CW 45).

    5) While pulling upward on the slide and racking it the trigger now reset every time.

I just got back from the range and I put 120 rounds through it with 0 malfunctions.

Sorry for the long post, but I hope this helps someone (it sure was frustrating for me!).
